Advantages of UNIFI

•Download large (file size) DVD quality movies and music video clips in a matter of minutes or even a few seconds depending on the file size. (How do I know that it can download within minutes?)

•Enjoy a new TV experience through TV over broadband (IPTV) where they can access TV channels over a private network in high definition format with high stability. IPTV also offers the ability for high content user interactivity through its video-on-demand feature.
(How do I know that it can offer high content interactivity?)

•Work from home and stay in touch with their offices or clients and business associates anywhere in the world in real time through high speed Internet, video and voice connections. (Streamxy can do this too, so UNIFI is nothing special.)

•Enjoy a richer, secure shopping and e-commerce experience from the comfort of their homes by accessing virtual shops on-line around the world through real time video and chat. (How do I know that it can do this better than Digi or streamxy etc...)

•Play on-line games simultaneously with anyone in the world in real time and high resolution format.
(Again, how do I know that it can do this better than Digi or streamxy etc...)

•Access educational services such as ‘study on-line’ and participate in virtual classroom discussions with their tutors anywhere in the world as well as enjoy a rich research experience by being able to download books, journals and magazines in a matter of minutes.

•Receive real time medical diagnosis and advice from local and international medical practitioners in the comfort of their homes through high speed Internet, high definition video and voice connections.

Equipment Technology

FTTH – Fiber to the Home

FTTO – Fiber to the office

FTTS – Fiber to the street

MSAN – Multiservices access network (ZTE , Huawei . (Huh?)

•Very fast using internet & IPTV because the product get the maximum data rate without any distruption.

•Using a VC & AC more faster because the product come with Fixed ID.

Disadvantages
  • Very expensive if compare than to other packages.
  • More complicated if there any error or failure on the system. Take time to repaired (repair)

UniFI VS STREAMYX
What is UniFI
*UniFi is a wired high speed broadband service. You will be able to experience the highest speed connection available in the market and this will enable you to tap into many services such as online games, downloadable rich content, virtual interaction (video calls) and an enriched shopping experience (rich multimedia virtual shopping, real time merchant tips). UniFi provides more stable and reliable connections to ensure a premium customer experience.

What is STREAMXY
*Tmnet streamyx is a broadband access service which provides 'always on' connection to the Internet with speed bandwidths from 512k up to 2mbps."
With the high-speed connectivity/ bandwidth, the service is ideal to support most broadband applications such as, web hosting, video streaming, e-commerce, distance learning and others.

TM’S UniFi SERVICE
(How do I know that it can download within minutes?)

Because this services UniFi choose a fiber technology to the home compared to streamyx using the concept of DSL (Digital Subscribe Line) - Cooper Technology

TM’s UniFi service offers bandwidth delivered at broadband speeds of
5Mbps and above. This high speed bandwidth will be delivered to homes
via fibre technology. Fibre technology is able to transmit data with
better quality transmission at speeds far exceeding current broadband
technology. With bandwidth being provided at such high speeds,
UniFi will definitely bring a whole new digital lifestyle experience to
Malaysians. It will open up greater opportunities and provide access
to rich content like never before in entertainment, gaming, education,
business, work, health, communications, services and much more.

Streamyx Technology

*The technology which supports tmnet streamyx service is DSL. It stands for Digital Subscriber Line. DSL is the next generation of Internet access technology. A house or business with DSL has a data socket that looks like a phone socket. DSL is a direct connection to the Internet that is always on. Technology has basically enhanced the copper pair to enable data communication at rates of up to 2Mb/s.
The types of DSL technology chosen to support tmnet streamyx are ADSL, SDSL and Glite DSL. ADSL stands for Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line. It allows you to simultaneously access the net and use the phone or fax (at the same time). GLite DSL is similar to ADSL but has lesser speed capability than full rate ADSL.
SDSL stands for Symmetrical Digital Subscriber Line. The different between ADSL and SDSL is SDSL offers the customer symmetrical bandwidth upstream and downstream to a customer (e.g. 1.5Mb/s SDSL Streamyx package offers the customer 1.5Mb/s downstream speed as well as 1.5Mb/s upstream speed). Technologically, SDSL does not allow voice/fax (PSTN) over the same copper.

So what are the big advantages of fibre technology (UniFi) over DSL(Streamyx) ?
1. Less expensive — Optical cable can be made more cheaply than copper wire. This saves on cost.
2. Thinner, more lightweight — Optical fibres can be drawn to smaller diameters than copper wire. An optical cable weighs less than a comparable copper wire cable and takes up less space in the ground.
3. Higher capacity — Because optical fibre is thinner than copper wires, more fibre can be bundled into a given-diameter cable than copper wires. As transmission via fibre optic technology is carried via light signals, it is able to carry large amounts of data with ease and can be easily scaled up to carry larger bandwidths without additional technological intervention.
4. Signal degradation resistant — The loss of signal in optical fibre is less than in copper wire, making it ideally suited for carrying digital information, which is especially useful in computer networks.
5. Low power — Because a signal travelling via optical fibre degrades less, lower-power transmitters can be used instead of the high-voltage electrical transmitters needed for copper wires.

DSL (Streamyx)

Copper is also more susceptible to damage via pulling, with approximately a 11kg pull tension limit. Fibre is stronger than copper cables and may have pull strength of 45kg-90kg for standard cables. Rugged fibre optic cables can have up to a 363kg pull strength.
Not to forget as well, copper has also lately become a favourite target for thieves hoping to cash in on the high price of metal.
For these reasons fibre optics is now either the dominant medium or the primary choice for telecommunications systems. Today’s fibre infrastructure can accommodate a future of ten (10) gigabit speeds with ease, demonstrating the technology’s flexibility to be scaled up to meet future bandwidth needs without additional or with minimal investment.
With bandwidth being provided at such high speeds (5, 10 and 20Mbps for UniFi), it’s easy to see how the UniFi now signals the beginning of a more “aggressive” digital lifestyle for Malaysians in terms of opening up greater opportunities and providing access to richer content in entertainment, gaming, education, home entrepreneurship, telecommuting, e-health, communications, e-government services and beyond.
High speed broadband coupled with a thriving local content industry is also expected to spawn a whole new lifestyle for subscribers, allowing Malaysians to enjoy high quality services, applications, infotainment and entertainment.
Done right, it would help create a whole new way of “living online” and allow Malaysians to really make the most out of what the Internet and other locally developed value-added online services can offer.

International Broadcast Channel:

-----------------------------------
Streamyx 4mbps RM140:

Download Speed: 5mbps
Upload Speed: 512kbps
Ping Test: 30+ onwards
Download Limit: unlimited

-----------------------------------

Reason:
Unifi if you download from local the 5mbps plan can shoot up till 10mbps.. upload remains the same.
Unifi to other countries then your download will be 5mbps and below...
And with unifi there's a download limit but it's not up and on yet.

Differences between ISDN technology and xDSL

ISDN
  • ISDN allows you to have many different digital features, such as PABX and digital fax and requires you to have a special telephone line (i.e. you have to do a new wiring).
  • ISDN is a dial-up service .
  • Have limited range of bandwith.

xDSL
  • it uses the existing copper line
  • xDSL is a always-on connection.
  • wide ranges of bandwidth available for xDSL (ranging from 384kbps to 2Mbps)
